Kenneth Marvin Cassidy, 84, of Scammon, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Kenneth was born August 24, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Marvin and Dagmar (Karlsson) Cassidy. His family moved to Scammon, Kansas, when he was a child. He graduated from Cherokee County Rural High School with the class of 1957. While in high school he was a star athlete in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field.
On December 21, 1962, he married Patricia Kay Parsons in West Mineral, Kansas. Together they had three children, Jeff, Darin, and Kris. Ken spent the majority of his career working for P&M Coal Mining Company. He served on the Columbus School Board for 16 years. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Jeff and wife, Julie of Columbus, Kansas; Darin and wife, Theresa of Scammon, Kansas; and daughter, Kris Cassidy of Scammon. He has six grandchildren, Lauren Cassidy of Madison, Wisconsin; Morgan Cassidy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Patrick Cassidy of Lawrence, Kansas; Peyton Roark and husband Zane of Scammon; Ashlyn Cassidy of Lawrence, Kansas; and Kinzey Cassidy of Scammon, Kansas. Ken was Papa to two great-grandsons, Cole Roark and Woods Roark.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Gary Cassidy.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (July 25) at Brenner Mortuary. A private family graveside will take place in the Hosey Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Scammon. These may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
