LaTurner Launches 2023 Congressional Art Competition

Washington, D.C. — On Monday, Representative Jake LaTurner (KS-02) launched the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for the Second Congressional District of Kansas.

"The Congressional Art Competition is a great way for high school students across the country to express their creativity and have the opportunity to display their artwork in the United States Capitol," said LaTurner. "I continue to be impressed by the talent of young artists across the Second District, and I look forward to seeing all the submissions for this year's competition." 

This nation-wide high school art competition is sponsored each spring by members of the U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Art Caucus. The winning student from each Congressional District across the nation will receive two airline tickets to the see the artwork in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. with an opportunity to visit their Member of Congress. The competition is now open and all artwork must be submitted to Rep. LaTurner's Topeka or Pittsburg office by Friday, April 28 at 5:00 pm. 

An Art Advisory Committee from Kansas’ Second District will judge the submitted artwork and the winner of the competition will be announced on Friday, May 5. 

Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26 inches by 26 inches, may be up to 4 inches in depth, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. 

Acceptable art forms are paintings, drawings, two-dimensional collages, prints, computer-generated art, photography, and mixed-media using more than two of the other medians 

All high school students in LaTurner’s congressional district are eligible. If schools house 7th through 12th grade on one campus; then 7th and 8th grades may also participate.
