It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nilda Gometz, who, until recently, was a long-loved resident of Pittsburg, Kansas. She died on January 10, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. Nilda's life was a testament to love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to God, her husband, her family, and her community.

She was born on July 9, 1942, in Asunción, Paraguay, to Luís and Dora Zamphiropolos Aranda. Nilda earned a nursing degree at the Instituto Andrés Barbero in Asunción. She continued her post-graduate work at the Clinica San Giuseppe in Rome, Italy. She married Dr. Modesto S. Gometz on September 21, 1967, in Asunción and moved to the United States the following year. She worked beside Modesto as a nurse and office manager for many years at the Children and Teenagers’ Clinic in Pittsburg, Kansas. She resided in Pittsburg for most of her life, where she touched the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and generosity. Nilda was an active member of the Hispanic community, often providing resources to exchange students at Pittsburg State University and the members of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Nilda's faith was always the guiding force behind everything she did. As a devout Catholic, she found solace and strength in her relationship with God, trusting in His divine plan with unwavering faith and conviction. Due to her declining health, she moved to Ocala, Florida, in late 2023 to be closer to her son, Eric, and his children.
