Rose M. Bailey, 100, of Girard, Kansas, died at 5:28 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2025, in the Medicalodge in Frontenac, Kansas where she lived the last 4 years.
Rose was born Dec. 7, 1924, at rural Girard, a daughter of Henry and Frances (Ponsi) Mengarelli.
She graduated from Girard High School and Kansas State Teachers College, now Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kansas. She taught in rural schools for several years.
Rose married Merle Bailey on Sept. 7, 1946, at Merle’s father’s country home northwest of Girard.
Merle preceded Rose in death on May 20, 1997.
Rose was a homemaker and worked on the family farm and assisted neighbors with different projects.
Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Bradshaw, and her husband, Steve, of Girard; her sons, Larry Bailey of rural Girard and Bill Bailey, and his significant other, Judy, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; her grandchildren, Cory Bailey, and his significant other, Jill, of Girard, Judd Bailey, and his wife, Barb, of rural Girard, and Bobbi Jo Bailey, and her husband, Chris, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her great-grandchildren, Carsyn Bailey of Frontenac, Hanna Bailey, a student at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Meredith Mollman, a student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, and Dawson Peak, a senior at Girard High School.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, August Mengarelli and Johnny Mengarelli, a daughter-in-law, Betty Ann Bailey, and many friends.
Private family services will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Big Flag at the Girard American Legion and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
