Stephen (Steve) Frank Saporito, 57, of Weir, Kansas passed on Oct. 29, 2024.
He was the son of Mary (Larson) and Frank Saporito born on Aug. 6, 1967.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Frank, grandparents, multiple aunts and uncles. Steve grew up in Weir, Kansas where he enjoyed riding his bike, working on lawn mower engines, driving his 4-wheeler and golf cart. Steve was happiest when with his family and in being a part of his community.
He was recognized as Grand Marshall of the Weir Homecoming in 2010, and delighted in the attention this brought him. He loved the Weir Fire Department, and the fire department made him an honorary Weir Firefighter in 2013. Steve made many friends that looked out for him through the years, and he was a friend to all who knew him. He looked forward to and loved planning for The Weir Homecoming parade every year, where he enjoyed riding his bicycle, 4-wheeler and in later years decorating and driving his golf cart.
He was the boss and planner of many family events, most importantly his own birthday parties. Two of those included a family bicycle race, in which he came in first place and a family basketball game that he chose to referee. We will never know who won that game but there were many fouls and whistle blows.
Steve lived at home with his parents and also at Class Group Home where he met and loved many of the staff, who loved him in return. Steve is survived by his four siblings Gary (Cindi), Susan, Robert (Shelly), Dan (Deanna), several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will always refer to him as “our Buddy”. The most important person in Steve’s life has been his mom. She kept him safe, loved, comforted, and the center of the family. His siblings and extended family will be forever grateful to her for the love and care she gave him. He could not have been given a better mom or a happier life. His family will miss him immensely and are grateful for the time they had with him.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Weir with a celebration of life luncheon at St Bridget’s Catholic Parish, Scammon, Ks immediately following. Donations can be made in Steve’s honor to Class in Columbus KS or the Weir City Fire Department.
