Wallace F. Smith

Wallace F. Smith, 91, of Mindenmines, Missouri, passed away peacefully at 11:38 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in rural Mindenmines, the son of Louis H. and Agnes (Rummel) Smith.

On Sept. 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Margie Stevens at the Nashville Christian Church in Nashville, Missouri. Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2021.

Wallace was a lifetime farmer and also a coal miner for P&M Coal Company.

Membership was held in the Mindenmines Christian Church.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Smith (Sondra) and Kevin Smith (Nancy) of Mindenmines; one daughter, Joan Cantrell (Clint) of Mindenmines; one daughter-in-law, Sally Smith of Carl Junction; one brother, Ralph (Dolly) Smith of Liberal, Missouri; two sisters, Louise Ellis of Grove, Oklahoma, and Eva (Kenny) Umphenour of Afton, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren: Melissa Hart, Garrett Smith, Amanda Janssen, Kim Barnhart, Steve Smith, Heather Smith, Thomas Smith, Beth Cantrell, and Callista Smith; and three great-grandchildren: Emma, Ethan, and Ezra Hart.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jerry Smith.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Smith is set for 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the Mindenmines Christian Church, with Reverend Dan Moss officiating. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date at the Nashville Cemetery. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Mindenmines Christian Church. Memorials may be left at, or sent to, Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.
