Coming off their best season in school history (27-6), the Pittsburg State Gorillas are ranked No. 3 in the USA Today Division II preseason coaches’ poll.

Pitt State returns three starters (senior guard Drew Roberts, junior guard Alexa Bordewick and sophomore forward Lizzy Jeronimus) and several contributors from its Elite Eight squad of a year ago.

The Gorillas are the highest-ranked Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assocation team in the poll. Washburn (17), Emporia State (19) and new MIAA school Northeastern State (23) join the Gorillas in the top 25. Fort Hays State and Central Missouri fall in the “Others Receiving Votes” category.

Pitt State tips off its regular season at home with the Pitt State Tip-Off Classic, playing Southwest Minnesota State (Nov. 9) and Mary (Nov. 10).

The pre-holiday schedule continues with the Missouri Southern Thanksgiving Classic (Evangel Nov. 23 and Avila Nov. 24), three straight home games against William Jewell (Nov. 28), Quincy (Dec. 1) and Central Oklahoma (Dec. 6), a road contest against Lindenwood (Dec. 8) and games against the Academy of Art-San Francisco (Dec. 18) and Dixie State (Dec. 19) in the Las Vegas Challenge.
