Terry Calloway said he will begin his campaign today after defeating Chad Titterington for the GOP nomination in the race for the Kansas House.

Calloway will go on to face incumbent Democrat Julie Menghini to represent the 3rd District. Calloway won in a landslide, with 1,007 votes (80.7 percent) of the primary ballots to Titterington’s 241 votes (19.3 percent).  Menghini, running unopposed for re-election, received 1,084 votes.

“I believe the election turned out the way we were expecting it to because of the amount we put into it,” Calloway said. “I’m anxious to get started in promoting a clear choice for voters in the fall. As we shift to the general election, we will be more specific about the clear choice for voters of a fiscal conservative against the tax-and-spend liberal in office up to now.”

On the other side of the election, Titterington said that he was proud of his campaign, his first, and would go to bed knowing he did as good a job as he could in the election.

“Terry ran a good race,” Titterington said. “It was obvious who the choice was in the Republican primary for the 3rd District. I wish him and Julie good luck in the fall election.”

Titterington’s campaign impressed Calloway, who said that he expects to see Titterington working on a city committee or being involved in local politics in the future.

But Calloway pulled through, and he said hit was his supporters that pushed him to victory.

“I had tremendous support throughout the race,” he said. “People would come to us and ask if they could get a support sign or get involved. I felt really, strongly supported. It’s been very exciting. I am so thankful for allof the people that supported my campaign. I think we’re doing the right thing for Pittsburg.”
