Pittsburg Post 64 moved to 21-9 on the season after recording a 6-2 mark in games July 1-8 at the South Plains Classic and the Lawrence Tournament.
Post 64 lost 14-2 to Woodward last week and 9-7 to Builders Champion on Sunday. Otherwise, Post 64 rolled off victories over the Oklahoma City Panthers (3-2), the Wichita A’s (11-1), Blue Valley Northwest (14-6), Lawrence Black (9-6), Lawrence Red (13-0) and Springfield Kickapoo (10-0). Woodward finished second in the prestigious South Plains Classic.
Post 64 went ahead early on the Panthers with two runs in the second and broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winning run in the fourth.
Cody Grilz hit a home run and earned a save on the mound. Christian Cedeno hit a triple and stole a base. Bryan Wade collected a pair of singles and Brett Macary deposited a double. Blake Vail pitched six innings for the win. Each team committed four errors.
On Thursday in Lawrence, after taking a break from games for a few days, Post 64 jumped all over the Wichita A’s with three in the second, four in the third and four in the fourth forcing a four-inning run-rule game. Post 64 plated its 11 runs on six hits and four Wichita errors. Sam Gilbert blasted a home run, Grilz and Cedeno hit triples, and Macary and Grilz each drove in two runs, so half of the six hits went for extra bases and produced runs.
Against Blue Valley Northwest, Post 64 combined aggressive baserunning (12 stolen bases) and timely hitting (five extra-base hits and 10 RBI), plating six runs in the fifth to earn a run-rule victory.
Bryce Burdette and Vail each stole three bases and Matt Standlee and Nate George both had two in the basestealing exhibit put on by Post 64. Macary led Post 64 with three RBI, Standlee and George each chiming in two. Five errors hurt the Blue Valley Northwest cause.
On Friday against Lawrence Black, Post 64 scored nine unanswered runs in the middle of the contest and held on for a 9-6 win. Post 64 hit five extra-base hits and Lawrence Black committed three errors. Winning pitcher Standlee allowed one run over five innings and he fanned eight, throwing 34 strikes over 41 pitches to 19 batters. Nick George drove in two.
Post 64 made quick work of Lawrence Red on Saturday with a pair of sixes in the second and third innings. On the mound, Macary stifled Lawrence Red, throwing strikes (40 in 58 pitches) and keeping the ball on the ground (six groundouts, one flyout and five strikeouts). Offensively, Nick Vacca led another solid Pitt 64 offensive effort with a homer and three RBI.

With a 10-0 win over Springfield Kickapoo, Post 64 won both its Saturday games in four-inning run-rule fashion. Joe Wimmer pitched lights out, striking out six and giving up just one hit. Standlee led Post 64 with two RBI.
Over two games Saturday, Post 64 pitchers Macary and Wimmer allowed no runs on four hits over eight innings and the Post 64 defense committed one error while the offense produced 23 runs on 20 hits.
Builders Champion halted the Post 64 winning streak with two critical runs in the seventh, during a game in which Post 64 outhit Builders Champion 11-8 but were outscored by two runs, 9-7.
Post 64 returns to action over the weekend in a showcase tournament at JayCee Ballpark.
