Pittsburg Post 64 finished play 3-1 in the Red Raven Classic (a showcase tournament similar to ones put on by Post 64 and Fort Scott Community College at JayCee Ballpark) with a 10-7 win Sunday afternoon over the Tulsa Oilers at Walter Johnson Park.
Post 64 maximized its nine hits for the game and built an early 7-0 lead after 1.5 innings. In a game of run-scoring streaks, the Oilers forced a tie score with three runs in the second and four runs in the fourth. However, Post 64 scored the final three runs of the contest, two in the fifth and one in the seventh, to move to 27-11 on the season.
Cody Grilz and Nate Grimaldi led the Post 64 hit parade with three each, both players 3-for-3 in the game. Grilz drove in a game-high four runs and Christian Cedeno added two. Grimaldi, Sam Gilbert and Brett Macary each drove in a run and Macary drew a pair of walks. Grimaldi stole four bases, showing the form he did at the beginning of the season in the Wood Bat Tournament.
On the mound, Blake Vail picked up the win, pitching three innings in relief of Grilz. Grilz left with a 7-3 lead, Vail allowed four runs in the fourth and pitched the sixth inning after Post 64 regained a 9-7 lead, earning the win.
Post 64 defeated the Wichita Rangers 7-5 and the KC Regal Athletics 3-2 on Friday before dropping a 2-1 contest to the Wichita Sluggers on Saturday, its one loss in Coffeyville. Post 64 has won four of its last five and seven of its last 10.
