This year there are many music classes offered at St. Paul High School. These classes include high school band, drum line, K-4th grade basic music class, 5th and 6th grade band, music appreciation, and choir. Music appreciation and the drum line were new classes that were added to course schedule this year.
So far this year the high school band, under the direction of Mr. Lewis Hundley, has participated in the Veterans' Day Program, the Pittsburg Homecoming Parade and Band Day, and the Biblesta Parade in Humboldt.
When asked what improvements Mr. Hundley has seen in the band since the beginning of the year, he said, “The younger students are starting to learn to read music better and their attitudes toward band has improved.” He also said, “By the end of the year, he would like for the all the students to be able to sight read music and to leave on a positive note.”
In the future, the band will expect to participate in the Christmas Program, the St. Paul Christmas Parade, basketball games, and college band days. They will also occasionally participate in parades for money to help fund the music classes and there is a possibility that they will do fundraisers.
Mr. Hundley really enjoys teaching the St. Paul students because he gets to work with the same students everyday and he gets to work with the programs more so it's an investment for the future.
