St. Paul High School's Scholars' Bowl teams are excited about starting the season. The season starts in late fall and lasts until early spring. There have already been a few meets, including meets at Chetopa and Girard. Upcoming meets will be in Frontenac, Moran, and Southeast.
The junior varsity team is made up of Carly Newberry, Bryce Carlson, Grant Smith, Blake Paulie, and Trent Wood. Captain of the junior varsity is Trenton Wood. The varsity team is made up of Jena Terlip, Kayla Newberry, April Harding, Kevin Carpenter, and Haley Bradshaw. Captain of the varsity is Jena Terlip. The sponsor for the scholar's bowl teams is Judy Terlip.
This year the junior varsity team went to the final round at the Chetopa meet. The varsity team got third place at the Chetopa meet and into the finals at the Girard meet. They have only been to two meets so far this year, and have regular practices. Kayla Newberry said, “We've improved a lot from last year and we're having a pretty good season so far this year.”
The topics for questions come from several different areas, including Math, Language Arts, History, Science, Current Events, and Foreign Languages. “My favorite subject to quiz on is history, but I also like current events. We've been playing a lot of Catch Phrase [a trivia game] to keep up to date,” said Jena Terlip.
