Math Relays at Pittsburg State University is a day for kids from all over to come and compete in different math tests both individually and in a team. This year's math teacher Brian Carlson took 25 students from all levels of math classes to participate.
"I like them to get to go see a college setting, and see math at a higher level," said Carlson.
Junior Jena Terlip commented, "I like to see how I rank among students my age from the different schools."
Sophomore Ashley Stein also commented, "It's nice to see a college campus and find out what is in store for us in the future."
The St. Paul students placed very well. Nathan Meins placed 5th in 12th grade Trigonometry. Rick McAtee placed 6th in 12th grade Marathon. Logan Giefer placed 8th in 12th grade Marathon. Kolby Carter placed 4th in 12th grade Probability and Statistics. Jena Terlip placed 4th in 12th grade Potpourri, and 2nd place in 11th grade Geometry. Kayla Newberry placed 3rd in 12th grade Computational Math. Haley Bradshaw placed 4th in 11th grade Algebra Equations and Inequalities, 5th place in 11th grade Analytic Geometry, and 3rd in 11th grade Computational Math. Dylan Treiber placed 4th in 11th grade Computational Math, and Austin Smith placed 5th in 10th grade Potpourri.
The Calculator Relay Team consisting of Kayla Newberry, Ashley Stein, Rachel Thornton, and Allison O'Brien placed 8th. The Algebraic Word Problems Team consisting of Jena Terlip, Jessica Tuck, Haley Bradshaw, and Erin Tuck placed 8th. The Trigonometry Team consisting of Logan Giefer, Rick McAtee, Nathan Meins, and Kolby Carter placed 6th.
Carlson was is proud of all of his students, and wants to congratulate them on all of their hard work.
