Future Farmers of America (FFA) have been as busy as beavers. Members are involved in numerous activities. Many of these include the Greenhand Conference, the National Convention, Blue and Gold Sales, and Barnyard Days.
The beginning of Fall was kicked off with freshman students experiencing their first look at FFA while attending the Greenhand Conference in Cherryvale. This is a competition and workshop that allows new members of our chapter to get the feel for FFA. During the competition, the freshman team placed in the top ten in both the Spelldown and Creed Speaking competitions.
The St. Paul Chapter Officers and two sponsors made a four day trip to the National Convention which was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Students who participated were Chapter President Maddie Leistikow, Secretary Grant Smith, Treasurer Trenton Wood, Reporter Kevin Carpenter, Sentinel Jodie Lutz, and Chaplin Brett Hutcherson.
Mrs. Johnson and her husband served as sponsors for the trip. Participants attended a Toby Keith concert, many knowledgeable sessions about leadership, and career shows about jobs pertaining to agricultural fields. The officers would like to thank USD 505 and the Board of Education for supporting the trip.
The St. Paul Chapter of FFA is currently selling Blue and Gold Meat Products to help defray the cost of their activities. Patrons may purchase bacon, sausage, and chicken from any FFA member. Your support is greatly appreciated!
On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, the FFA Chapter hosted a Barnyard Days event for the St. Paul Elementary School children. Barnyard Days conveys the message that agriculture plays a big part in our everyday lives. Maddie Leistikow commented that, “Members have brought animals and prepared presentations to teach the students about agriculture in this area.” The FFA Sponsor, Mrs. Johnson stated ,“I am very excited about Barnyard Days and if the weather cooperates, it should go well. The members have worked really hard at planning and are excited to work with the younger students.”
The first nine weeks have been busy and very successful for FFA. There are currently 35 members in our chapter. The St. Paul FFA Chapter is growing bigger and stronger every day.
