The 2012 baseball team is starting out strong this year with a 4-0 record as April 5th. They have many goals for this season. Pat Schibi, the coach, said, “With eight returning starters we want to put ourselves in the number one seat for regionals, and take it one game at a time.” With seniors Willie Westhoff, Trenton Wood, Nick Corn, Kane Norris, Jamie Holding, and juniors Riley O’Brien, Jake O’Brien, Anthony Diskin, and Paul Schibi as returning starters, it should be a good year. With such a variety of players, there isn’t a designated set of nine players who start every game. “We have a great pitching staff, where we can choose from five different guys,” says Coach Schibi. “Since we have five different pitchers, we have changed our starting lineup every game so far.” This is an advantage so that the other team does not know who will be pitching.

Coach Schibi has set goals to win league, go to state, and try to win a state title this year. In order for them to do that, they have to show up to practice ready to work hard and stay concentrated on what they need to do. This will help them get that league title and go on to regionals to try and win a state title.

This years team consists of seniors Westhoff, Wood, Corn, Norris, and Holding, juniors R. O’Brien, J. O’Brien, Diskin, Schibi, and Blake Paulie, sophomores Drake Carter, Austin O’Brien, Cody Kendall, and Chris Paulie and freshman Tyler Stein. They will be playing April 16th at home against Northeast, April 19th at Marmaton Valley, April 24th at home against Chetopa, May 1st at Altoona, May 3rd at home against Galena, May 14th-18th is Regionals, and May 25th-26th is State.
