The St. Paul High School football team has had a great start to the season with a 3-2 record.  They are led by head coach, Doug Tuck.  The team lost their first game to Crest, then went on a three game winning streak.  They beat Altoona, rival team Chetopa, and had a huge win over Marmaton Valley 44-42.  They lost their last game against Waverly.
Some of the senior players had a few things to say about their season.  Joey Alexander said “playing in the big games”  is his favorite thing about football . When asked what has their best memory of high school football, thus far, Brent Paulie responded “opportunities” and Kolby Carter said “beating Marmaton Valley 44- 42.” When questioned about personal goals, Luke Schibi answered “going to the playoffs” and Dylan Treiber responded “to become a better athlete.”
With the addition of the new school, the team lost their practice field.  When asked if the lack of practice area affected the team, Coach Tuck answered “Yes, if it rains and we practice, we tear the field up for the games.”  The district, however, currently has plans to build a new practice field east of the school.
Coach Tuck was also quoted as saying, “We have more speed in the backfield than we have had for many years.” He considers this to be a great strength that will aid the team in future victories.
Good luck, Indians.
