The St. Paul track team is back in action again this spring. Once again the team is coached by Doug Tuck. This is Tuck's twenty-first year of coaching track at St. Paul, and he has coached many individuals to the state level, finishing with many championships.
This season the track team has eleven boys and one girl. The team consists of Juniors: Joey Alexander, Dylan Treiber, Brent Paulie, and Jess Tuck; Sophomores: Tyler Coomes, Austin Smith, Tyler Johnson, and Cody Phillips; Freshmen: Jacob Gard, Trevor Boaz, and Grant Smith.
Improving athletically is a main focus for the Indians' track season. By getting in the weight room and working on agilities and stamina, the team hopes to improve on their individual strength, speed, and footwork.
When asked how the team compensates for not having an actual track Coach Tuck said, "You have to be very flexible with planning, and try to get anywhere where large vehicles won't run you over. That's part of our agilities." He also commented, "It is particularly hard to practice our field events since the practice field is currently occupied by the new school building, but we manage the best we can."
The Indians' first compete on April 2nd at Galena. "We have a really good group of kids that work hard and bring a lot of enthusiasm to practice," says Tuck. "I think by the end of the season we are going to see a big improvement!"
