Fifteen members of the GHS Science Club went “spelunking,” or caving, on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The group went to a cave in Nixa, Mo., where they toured underground caves led by guide John Beard and learned about various rock formations and bat populations. Their tour lasted from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Members who went on the trip were Chase Anderson, Hayden Bauer, Michaela Bauer, Cody Bradshaw, Chris Dee, Melanie Frisbee, Katy Gorentz, Krista Jarboe, Dalton Piatt, Nathan Reetz, Chris Reynolds, Leah Rogers, Trevor Scott, Madalyn Smith, and Madison Smith.
Junior Madalyn Smith said, “Caving was a lot of fun! This was the second time I have been caving with the Science Club.”
GHS instructors and Science Club sponsors Rob Massa and Matt Logue chaperoned the trip.
Mr. Massa said, “It was the first time I’d been, so it was interesting for me to see what caving truly is.”
Other events planned for the Science Club this year are a paint balling trip and fishing derby, both scheduled for the spring of 2010.
