Since late September twelve GHS students have been rehearsing for the fall musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” with new vocal teacher Christina Wallace as director.
Evening performances will be on Thursday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. An afternoon performance will be presented on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.
Tickets will be sold at the door, and admission prices will be $3 for students and $5 for adults.
The two main characters are Charlie Brown, who is played by Lucas O’Toole, and Lucy van Pelt, who is played by Maria Wilson.
“I’m excited and have had lots of fun at practice,” said Ms. Wilson. “This group is really great to work with.”
O’Toole concurred, saying, “We have a great group this year, and I hope more will be interested in participating next year.”
Charlie’s sister Sally Brown is played by Natalie Duling while Lucy’s brother Linus van Pelt is played by Josh Watson.
“I’m excited that I have the chance to act out my favorite character,” said Watson.
Manuel Lalicker is playing Schroeder, Gina Abati is playing Snoopy, and Taylor Evans is playing the red-headed girl Charlie Brown is infatuated with.
“Practice has been lots of fun, but it’s a lot of hard work,” said Lalicker. “Some people don’t realize how much work goes into putting a musical together.”
Chorus members include Aubri Ashbacher, Chanel Jackson, Emilee Turner, Whitney West, and Miyuki Yokoyama.
“The cast members are working hard, and I am looking forward to a great performance,” said Mrs. Wallace.
Some of the musical numbers that will be performed include “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “My Blanket and Me,” “Beethoven Day,” “The Book Report,” “The Baseball Game,” “Glee Club Rehearsal,” and “Happiness.”
“’You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!’ was a great selection for our school because of the limited selection of cast members,” said Ms. Duling. “I think it will be really great and hope we have a large turnout.”
Keith Matlock’s Construction II class has been creating props, including a school bus, a piano for Schroeder, and a psychiatrist booth for Lucy.
FACS instructor Emily Bray and her pre-professional lab student have assisted by making costumes, as has Sandra Abati.
Mrs. Wallace’s choir students have assisted with props, sets, and costumes, and during performances some will help with makeup and assist backstage.
An afternoon performance will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 12, for the high school student body at 1:30 p.m.
