Advisor Emily Bray and 28 members of the Girard Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter attended District J-East Fall Leadership Academy at Memorial Auditorium in Pittsburg on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The theme for this conference was “Leadership Explosion! Breaking the Walls with Excellence One Brick At a Time!”
Each chapter attending was responsible for one item on the agenda for the day. The Girard chapter was in charge of the Thought for the Day.
James Carlisle, keynote speaker and Tonganoxie High School principal, spoke on his leadership experiences and the “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”
Katy Ward, state FCCLA president, talked about the National FCCLA Convention held in Nashville last July.
Girard FCCLA officers who attended included President Carly Twarog, Vice President Megan Kichler, Secretary Tabby Castellani, Historian Kayla Sayre, and Student Council representatives Caleb Warner and Alicia Jameson.
Members who attended included Ashley Barry, Megan Bennett, Morgan Boore, Danielle Gull, Sha Horton, Erica Jameson, Kim Johnston, Britney Kidd, Breannen Kratz, Amanda Longpine, Jaqui Maples, Adela Milburn, Ashley Montgomery, Destanie Puckett, Tori Smith, Simeon Taylor, Josh Watson, Katelin White, and Maebry Woods.
“My first trip with Girard FCCLA members was a great experience with new students,” said Mrs. Bray.
