Girard Schools will soon receive $16,890 in new equipment courtesy of an endowment from Audio Acoustics, Inc.
Adrian Herrera of Audio Acoustics met with USD 248 Superintendent Gary Snawder on Tuesday, Jan. 5, to discuss the proposed upgrades and improvements covered under the endowment. He explained the types of equipment changes that would be made, as well as how existing equipment would be utilized.
The major goal of the plan is to update and replace the old sound system in the John E. Shireman Performing Arts Center.
Three new loudspeakers will be added to the facility. “The new 15-inch speakers will be a big improvement from the two existing speakers,” said USD 248 technology specialist Rick Duling.
Another major component of the proposal will be the addition of a new mixer in the audio booth and new power amplifiers, which will greatly enhance the quality of sound in the auditorium.
A new CD/MP3 player is yet another improvement provided under the plan. With this addition, the process of playing music during performances will be streamlined and music will be able to be played from CDs, iPods, and other similar devices.
Girard has done business with Audio Acoustics for quite some time. According to Herrera, Girard Schools were already using equipment from the company when he became employed there 12 years ago.
“Like many companies,” Herrera explained, “Audio Acoustics tries to give back to valued and loyal customers whenever there is an opportunity to do so.
This is something we try to do every other year at least. Usually, the gift isn’t as large as $16,000, but it’s sort of a way of saying ‘thank you’ for past business with our company.”
Superintendent Snawder responded graciously to the proposed additions. He commented that he relayed the information regarding the improvements to the Board of Education at their Thursday, Jan. 14, meeting.
Regarding the donation, Board of Education president Gayle Price said, “The school board is honored that Audio Acoustics chose Girard Schools to bestow this endowment upon. We are extremely grateful for their contribution to our facilities.”
Herrera said he would order the necessary equipment immediately and, by his estimation, the improvements should be in place within four to eight weeks.
