  • This is one of those things that farmers really can’t do without.  Though it seems like a pain to have to go through this process, it is the law, and without the certification, you can’t buy restricted use agricultural chemicals.
Once certified, your certification is good for five years.  The certification expires on your birthday of the fifth year after certification.  The recertification is sent to you at your home sometime before your birthday of the fifth year and must be finished and returned by your birthday.  If you fail to do this, your certification will expire, which means you won’t be able to purchase restricted use chemicals anymore.  However, even if you goof up and let your certification expire, you still have a year to renew the certification by finishing the recertification that was sent to you at home and returning it to the State Department of Agriculture.  However, during the interim between expiration and a late renewal, you will not be able to buy restricted use products.
For those who have never been certified and for those whose certification has been expired for more than a year, you must come to my office to complete the test for certification.
I plan to have a test session to complete the certification on the evening of Wednesday, February 22 beginning at 6:30 p.m.  It will be held in the Extension meeting room, which is located at 120 East Buffalo in Girard.  There is a fee of $25 for this certification.  It must be paid by check and can be made payable to the Kansas Department of Agriculture, so be sure to bring your check book. The test is open book and takes two to three hours for completion.
If you would like to come to this test session, please give us a call at the Extension office at 724-8233 by 4:00 p.m. on February 21.  Our number is 724-8233.
