Outgoing directors Jeff Wilbert, Dr. Bill Sullivan, Drew Rhodes and Dr. Mike Zafuta were recognized for their volunteer service to the YMCA.
“This shows the true charitable aspect of our YMCA,” Bache said. “We are continually trying to reach out to those in need.”
Goals for the YMCA are promoting healthy lifestyles, developing leadership skills in youth, strengthening families, building international understanding and assisting in community development.
Bache noted that 10,500 individuals were members of the Pittsburg Family YMCA, and more than 15,000 participants took part in a wide range of programs for youth and adults during 2008.
“Part of our mission statement is to improve the quality of life in each individual in our community, and we are striving to do that on a daily basis,” Bache said.
No one is denied membership or program participation at the Pittsburg Family YMCA because of financial difficulties.
Last year the YMCA extended memberships to 3,180 persons in the community who could not pay for a membership.
