  • Emma Mae George 92, of Columbus, KS died 2:15pm Monday April 15, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an illness.
    Emma was born September 8, 1920 in Melrose, KS the daughter of Melvin and Anna (Drager) Burton.  She graduated from Columbus High School in 1940.  Emma married Lawrence W. George on March 26, 1941 and lived all their lives in Columbus, KS.  Lawrence preceded her in death in 2006.
    Emma was a member of the First Christian Church of Columbus.  She was a Cub Scout Den mother for 5 years and worked at Big Smith Garment Factory for 10 years.  She also was a member of the Mayflower Club, an avid fisherman, loved to garden and was known to be an excellent cook.
    Survivors include sons David George and wife Kathryn of Pittsburg, KS, Joe George and wife Patsy of Baxter Springs, KS; five grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister Irene Porter of Little Rock, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
    Emma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Mary Wilder and 5 brothers Clyde, Frank, Carl, Pete and Hank Burton.
    Graveside Services will be 10am Friday April 19, 2013 at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Rural Columbus, KS with Rev. Roger Beason officiating.  Informal visitation will be from 11am-5pm Thursday April 18, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS.  In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the First Christian Church of Columbus, KS.  Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S.
