Benefit dinner, auction
GIRARD — A benefit dinner and auction will be held Saturday at the Girard American Legion for Brenda Patton.
Patton is suffering from a tumor that is blocking her heart and bronchial tubes. She is undergoing chemotherapy and then will start radiation treatment. She has no health insurance available, and all donations will be used to defray her medical expenses.
Dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m., featuring spaghetti with meat sauce, baked chicken, green beans, tossed salad, bread and desserts. Carry-outs will be available. Free will donations will be accepted for the meal.
The auction will follow the meal at 7 p.m.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Brenda Patton Fund, in care of the Girard National Bank, 100 E. Forest, Girard, Kan., 66743, or the Girard American Legion SAL, P.O. Box 14, Girard, Kan., 66743.
Pittsburg Farmers Market will be held from 7:30 a.m. until sold out at Second and Broadway.
Local vendors will be selling local fruits, vegetables, beef, pork, chicken, baked goods, eggs, garden plants, bedding plants, jams and jellies, crafts and food.
Southeast Kansas Memory Walk will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. at Immigrant Park. The two-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be served at 11 a.m. at the cost of a $5 donation.
Memory Walk is the signature fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association, and all proceeds will be used to support a wide range of programs and services for the many individuals, family members and caregivers affected by this disease.
Food Share America
Food Share America orders for the June distribution will be taken from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the west gym door of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Food Share America is a non-profit food purchasing program that offers savings because volunteers help sort, package and distribute food which is purchased in bulk. Anyone needing additional information may call 620-347-8704.
Girard Farmers Market
GIRARD — Girard Farmers Market will be held from 7:30 a.m. until sold out on the Girard city square.
Items available will include jams and jellies, breads, cookies, pies, salsa, dog treats, Father’s Day gift baskets, crafts, green onions, leaf lettuce and more.

Rob Morris OES
Rob Morris Chapter No. 74, Order of the Eastern Star, will host a reception honoring Ro Jean Ward at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Center, 3105 No. Joplin.
Prior to the reception will be a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. Meat, bread and beverages will be provided.
Mrs. Ward, a member of Rob Morris Chapter, was recently appointed Grand Electa of the Grand Chapter of Kansas.
