Cherry Grove Baptist Church, located eight miles south of Fort Scott on Highway 69, has presented a Local Church Pastoral License to Matthew Kendrick.
This license entitles Kendrick to perform weddings, officiate at funerals and administer all church ordinances.  During the initial part of Kendrick’s ministry he will be mentored and advised by Senior Pastor Dale Cummins of Cherry Grove, and Senior Pastor the Rev. Rick Qualls of First Baptist Church of Chanute.
Kendrick is presently enrolled in the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region Lay Ministries Program.  Upon completion of this comprehensive program he may apply for a regional ordination.  He will be assisted by his local congregation and Regional Ministries during this process.
“Matthew has exhibited an exceptional Christian heart and desire to serve through a church ministry,” the Rev. Cummins said. “We at Cherry Grove are pleased to provide him assistance and encouragement to reach his goals.  I am personally pleased to be involved in his continuing education.”
Kendrick is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi having earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a public relations emphasis.  He is currently employed at Derailed Commodity in Brazilton.  His wife, Robin is majoring in Psychology at Liberty University.  They and their 8 year-old daughter, Darci, live in Girard.
