Daniel D. “Nick” Latty, 81, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:19 a.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Daniel D. “Nick” Latty, 81, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:19 a.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

He was born November 26, 1930 at Pittsburg to Virgil Arthur and Hazel Elizabeth (Gutteridge) Latty. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School.

On April 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Martha “Artie” Bill at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Latty worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a diesel mechanic for forty-four years, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he went to work for Jim Belew at Pittsburg Automotive for 12 years.

In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by a son, Doug Latty and his wife, Jane of Overland Park, KS; one daughter, Kathy Benard and her husband, Bob of Frontenac; one sister, Mary Lou Konek of Pittsburg; and two grandchildren, Carolyn and Nicholas Latty.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hurlburt.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, (March 28), at Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Jim Akins officiating.  The family will receive friends following the services at the Brenner Mortuary.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society and/or American Heart Association.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery.
