Pittsburg High School golfer Jon Nichols closed out his career with a 2-over 73 to place 12th at the Class 5A state golf tournament at Emporia Municipal Golf Course on Monday.

Nichols tied with St. Thomas Aquinas golfer Daniel Trout. Joe Winslow won the individual title with a 5-under 66.

Andover Central took home the team title with a 290, three shots better than runner-up Hutchinson and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Heatherly finishes 18th
EL DORADO — Girard senior J.D. Heatherly shot a 7-over 79 and tied for 18th at the Class 4A state golf tournament at Prairie Trails Country Club in El Dorado on Monday.

Seven other golfers shot a 79 for the tie.

Fort Scott’s Cole Murrin carded a 4-over 76 to place seventh overall.

Andover won the team title with a 319, three shots ahead of Chanute and Topeka-Hayden.
