FFA members traveled to Iola for Allen County Aggie Days April 4 and Fort Scott for Fort Scott Aggie Days April 5 to compete in various contests.

FFA members traveled to Iola for Allen County Aggie Days April 4 and Fort Scott for Fort Scott Aggie Days April 5 to compete in various contests.


In Iola members competed in ag business management, dairy foods, food science, speech and entomology.


Austin Egbert placed second individually in ag business management.


The dairy foods team consisted of Tristan Broce, Haley DeGarmo, Rylee Karhoff and Timbrelee McNair and placed sixth.


Kenzie Curran, Haley DeGarmo, Hannah Jones and Anissa Zagonel made up the food science team that placed eighth overall.


In the senior speech division Bethany Schifferdecker placed second and Ashley Horton placed third. Ms. Schifferdecker also placed first in extemporaneous speaking.


The entomology team consisted of Codie Beerbower, Brittnee Julian and Drew Zimmerman.


At the Fort Scott event, members participated in ag business management, livestock judging, meats judging, speech, creed speaking, dairy foods, entomology and food science.


The ag business management team, consisting of Austin Egbert, Caleb Egbert, Bethany Schifferdecker and James Spieth, placed first overall, with Austin Egbert placing first individually.


The livestock judging team consisted of Codie Beerbower, Tristan Broce, Brandon DeBusk, Molli Harris, Katie Jahay, Shayla Johnson, Schyler Nepote and Latricia Pike. The team placed fifth overall with Codie Beerbower placing third individually.


The meats judging team consisted of McKenna Belcher, Paxton Boore, Brenden Cowen and Jon Zimmerman. The team placed fifth with Jon Zimmerman placing sixth individually.


Katy Pitts placed tenth in freshman speech, Faith McClaskey placed fourth in sophomore speech, Haley Pitts placed tenth in junior speech, and Ashley Horton and Bethany Schifferdecker placed second and fifth respectively.


Freshmen Samantha Guy and Katy Pitts competed in the creed speaking contest.


Briston Kapler and Rylee Karhoff competed in the dairy foods contest.


The entomology team consisted of Caleb Eckelberry, Nathan George, Nicholas George and Tucker Johnston.


Becca Jameson, Tara Miller, Kaylee Pouche and Taylor Redfern competed in the food science contest.


Regarding the contests, advisor Joe Curran said, “These contests are great preparation for the state FFA career development events, and the kids put in a lot of hard work and time on them.”
