  • Students at Pittsburg State University took a few moments Thursday afternoon to relax, play games and enjoy a breath of spring weather before the end-of-the-semester rush.

Eva Sager, campus activities program coordinator, said the event is a collaborative effort between the student activities council, the residence hall assembly, the ROTC and the black student association.

All four groups, as well as many others, had activities or tables where students could visit and enjoy.

"Spring Fling is the last event before finals and before the semester ends," said campus student chair Kassandra Turner, adding that SAC was pleased that the weather cooperated and turned spring-like in time for the event.

She said the theme was "Around the World" and activities and food mirrored the theme, with walking tacos and pizza at the concession stand and a diverse selection of games and activities.

The sponsoring organizations rented inflatable games, including Twister and a couple units that provided bungee challenges.

Ashley Cross, visual arts chairperson for SAC, said the event turnout seemed good partway through and that generally it grows as it goes.

"It's always good to bring all the organizations on campus at one time," she added.

Darrell Chism and Jason Escobar took turns deejaying the music and keeping the atmosphere upbeat.

"We've got a pretty diverse group of music," Chism said. "I think we are just here to let everybody have fun."

The Gorilla Battalion ROTC helped to run some of the stations and  also promoted another opportunity to enjoy, with their upcoming Gorilla Dash, a local take on the popular Warrior Dash that includes mud pits, obstacles, teamwork and more.

Other student groups offered everything from ice cream or cupcakes, to laddergolf, ping pong and Plinko for their classmates to come and enjoy before finals begin the week of May 6.
