  • Mark Lloyd Church, 53, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Walnut, Kansas, died at 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at his home after a valiant battle with liver cancer.
    Mark was born October 18, 1959 and raised in Walnut, a son of Lee Roy and Nancy (Shively) Church.
    He moved to Houston in 1982 to pursue a career in retail management.
    Mark was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walnut and a Master Mason in the Vulcan Lodge No. 292, AF & AM of Walnut.
    He loved nature, charity work, animals, gardening, travel, and collecting Depression and Elegant Glassware and was a lifetime member of the Houston Glass Club.
    Survivors are his parents of Branson; his uncle, Jerry Church and his wife Rosie; an aunt, Martha Church; eight cousins; his partner and best friend, Ron Dalton.
    Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents; an uncle, Bob Church, and a brother, David Lee Church, on April 9, 1977.
    A memorial celebration was held in Houston on Monday.
    The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Friday.
    Private family committal services will be on Saturday at the Walnut Cemetery.
    Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to help animals at B.A.R.C. and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
