  • The Northeast Vikings fell short of a winning season and a Three Rivers League 11-man title Thursday night with a 58-14 loss to Oswego.
“We exceeded everyone’s expectations but our own,” Northeast head coach Phil Hobbs said on Twitter. “This was a step in the right direction, not our end result. We are not satisfied. Very proud of this team. Very proud of our seniors and our captains, they showed great leadership. Viking Football is on the rise! Vikings!”
“Predicted 2-7 and went 4-5?” Northeast junior quarterback J.T. Richardson tweeted. “I’d say we had a great season. I’m going to miss our four seniors (Killian Willard, Cody Burlingham, Sam Brooks and Mike Beasley). But we are returning nine on each side of the ball.”
Northeast ended its 19-game losing streak with a 34-14 win over Fredonia and won a second game in the same week with a 35-6 win over Eureka.
The Vikings were 4-2 after wins over Jayhawk-Linn (22-14) and Bluestem (36-6) before losses to Olpe (47-6), Lyndon (70-8) and Oswego (58-14) to end their season 4-5 and 1-3 in district.
