  • ENDORSEMENT LETTER: Locke's words are disturbing

  • I enjoy going to the Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forums. One learns about the Candidate that will be making decisions in Topeka, for our community. In Pittsburg, the forum with the state rep. candidates was all-telling. Julie Menghini gave knowledgeable, solid, thoughtful answers. I ask you to vote for Julie Menghini.

On to the forum in Franklin: Mr. Locke made several comments that I found disturbing.
    1. In reference to the question of personhood;  Locke said if a woman gets pregnant and “FIBS” (eye wink) saying she was raped. (What?!!)  RAPE IS A VIOLENT CRIME that could lead to pregnancy, but always leads to emotional distress. I am 64 years old and I thought that “good ole boy” mentality was behind us but this election proves it is alive and thriving in the “radical right”. It is sad and sickening.
    2. In reference to the question on concealed carry on campus;  Mr. Locke made the comment that if someone had their gun with them at the Cinema in Colorado, they could have taken the shooter out. There was an audible gasp from the crowd. There is so much wrong with that statement. First of all the shooter was wearing a Kevlar vest. More people would probably been caught in the line of fire.
The people we send to Topeka and D.C. make decisions for ALL of us. I personally do not want someone making decisions for me with that type of thought process. Please vote for Bob Grant if you are in his district.
