The GHS Jazz Band performed at the Kansas Association of School Boards Region 3 meeting hosted by Girard on Oct. 12, just one of several performances that will occur this school year.

Members provided entertainment during a dinner held after the meeting.

The group performs for various community events and practices before school as an extracurricular activity.

About his group, Director Willey Abati said, “I really appreciate the kids’ interest in being a part of this group because rehearsal is totally on their own time. They come in to practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7:15 to 7:50 a.m.”

Alto saxophone player Natalie Duling said about the band, “Sometimes it’s really hard to get up in the morning, but it’s definitely worth the effort when we get to perform for the community.”

The group will play at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., performing for the Show-Me Harmony Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
