Former classroom space at Victory Life Church has been transformed into “The Attic,” an awesome space for church youth.

“We started this last January and dedicated it Sunday evening,” said Pastor Donnie Talent. “We prayed over it and asked God to make it a blessing.”

The Attic features comfortable easy chairs and couches, flat-screen TV sets, X-box and Wii games, air hockey, foosball and ping pong tables. Completing the area is an Internet wall with four computers and a couple of arcade games.

Fundraising was done to finance the remodeling project.

“We did concessions at a lot of Pittsburg State University games and ran Jake’s Fireworks Stand downtown,” Pastor Talent said.

Church young people were involved every step of the way, he added, including fundraising, selecting the paint and helping with remodeling.

“We just had a real process with the kids,” the pastor said. “This is really all about them.”

“We did bake sales and Avon sales,” said JayCie Hines. “I sat on somebody’s shoulders and knocked out the old tiles,” added Rachel Talent.

Now they’re enjoying the space.

“We play here and we talk,” Hines said. “We play a lot of board games.”

“We play chess,” said Cody Robarts.

“This Wednesday, we’re going to have a New Year’s Eve party here, and then maybe go to a movie,”  the pastor said.

Most Wednesday evenings, the Attic living room area will be used for the youth Bible study.

“This is a place for the kids to hang out, have fun, get to know themselves and know God and what He’s done for them,” Pastor Talent said.
