Over his 33-year career, Ken Cleland was a teacher, coach and athletic director.



Cleland, who turned 60 in 2008 decided to retire as the athletic director at Northeast High School.

Cleland, who turned 60 in 2008 decided to retire as the athletic director at Northeast High School.

He came to Northeast after he left the military and coached football, softball and girls basketball over his tenure with the Vikings. He coached football for seven years, softball for 21 years and he took over the girls basketball program in 1987.

In the midst of it all, Cleland suffered a heart attack in 2001 but came back to coach after a short recovery.

During his time as softball coach, the Vikings finished as state runnerups in 1993 and third overall in 1994.
