Laura Mae Shoemaker, 91, of Girard, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 in the Girard Medical Center where she entered September 21.

Laura Mae Shoemaker, 91, of Girard, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 in the Girard Medical Center where she entered September 21.

Mrs. Shoemaker was born April 15, 1920 in Alton, Missouri, the daughter of G. W. and Verble M. (Mathis) Chronister.  She moved to Coffeyville at an early age and attended schools in Coffeyville.  

She married Roy J. Shoemaker on October 30, 1940 in Coffeyville.  He preceded her in death on August 29, 1983.

She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for the 7-Up and Coca-Cola Bottling Companies in Independence for over 35 years.  She retired to Girard in 1992.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a past 4-H, Girl Scout, and Christian Youth Fellowship leader.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Steven Bennefeld Post No. 7479, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion Auxiliary, all of Girard.

Mrs. Shoemaker enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sewing, crafting, reading, playing cards, and being outdoors.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Hocevar and husband Danny of Girard; sons Stephen Shoemaker and wife Shirley of Liberal, Missouri and Roy Shoemaker and wife Gloria of Loma Rica, California; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers G. W. Chronister and Walter I. Chronister, both of Coffeyville.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Floyd A. and Clyde H. Chronister.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday November 3, 2011 at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating.  Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and these may be left at the service or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
