The Kansas Lottery Commission has delayed voting on endorsing contracts for operating state-owned casinos in Wyandotte and Sumner counties.

Instead, the commission decided Thursday to ask Gov. Mark Mark Parkinson to extend the contract deadline to Aug. 28. The current deadline is next Tuesday.

Lottery executive director Ed Van Petten said he expects negotiations with all five applicants — two in Wyandotte County and three in Sumner County — to be completed in a couple weeks. He characterized the delay as a "bump in the road."

The commission can endorse as many contracts as it wants and forward them to a review board, which will make the final selection.
