The Pittsburg State University campus and community will be celebrating the season’s first home football game with Paint the Town Red events Aug. 27-29.



 


The Pittsburg State University campus and community will be celebrating the season’s first home football game with Paint the Town Red events Aug. 27-29.


Paint the Town Red, a collaboration between the Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations and the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has become a community-wide event in anticipation of PSU football games. Fans are encouraged to wear red, businesses take part by decorating their storefronts, and children even get involved with a special balloon launch at Carnie Smith Stadium. Plans for the weekend include:


Thursday, Aug. 27 – Chamber of Commerce coffee at the PSU Alumni Center, 8 a.m. Judging will be held throughout the morning for the campus decoration contest. At 6 p.m., the Red Rally will be held at Gorilla Village, with free pizza being served.


Friday, Aug. 28 – Paint the Town Red judging will go on all day throughout the city. At 2 p.m., the official Paint the Town Red balloon launch will be held for area children at Carnie Smith Stadium. At 7 p.m., the alumni office will present the movie “Up,” on the Jungletron for students, alumni and families.


Saturday, Aug. 29 – A 5K run to benefit PSU Students in Free Enterprise will take place at the Student Recreation Center. Registration begins at 7:30, with the cost of $12 for a T-shirt and $7 without. Medals will be awarded to top finishers. PSU vs. Central Oklahoma football game that evening with a kickoff time of 7 p.m.
