  • One man is confirmed dead after being struck by a train near the Fourth St. overpass.
Late Wednesday afternoon, Pittsburg Police responded to the area where they found a white male lying next to the railroad tracks just north of the overpass.
The train was stopped on the tracks between the overpass and the Seventh St. railroad crossing.
Pittsburg Police Lt. Jeff Woods said that police, in addition to Kansas City Southern investigators were still looking into the accident.
Woods said that investigators have not determined the man’s identity, nor why he was near the railroad tracks.
According to the Kansas City Southern website, the line of tracks connects Salisaw, Okla. to Kansas City, Mo.
The stretch of railroad tracks begins in New Orleans at the Gulf of Mexico and runs through Neosho, Mo. and Joplin, Mo. before coming to Pittsburg.
From there, the tracks re-enter Missouri and run through Amsterdam, Mo. before entering Kansas City.
Kansas City Southern, according to its website, is an international transportation holding company comprised of three primary railroads: The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR), Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM), and Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC).
