Two individuals associated with CLASS LTD received awards during a special reception celebration March 18 in Topeka, held as part of InterHab’s 40th anniversary.
InterHab celebrated persons with developmental disabilities, professionals who support them and dedicated legislators during the celebration. Focus of the event was to honor those who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to improve Kansas.
Avis Hawn, Pittsburg, received the Direct Support Professional Award for length of service. She has been a direct support professional at the Crawford County Service Center, Pittsburg, for 30 years.
Charles Polsak, Pittsburg, received the Community Employment Award for 33 years of employment in the community.
Tom Laing, executive director, presented the awards on behalf of InterHab. CLASS LTD is a member of InterHab, the Resource Network for Kansans with Disabilities.
“These awards speak volumes about people like Avis and the dedication it takes to work in the developmental disability field, not to mention for 30  years,” said Leslie Lackamp, assistant director of services in Crawford County. “Charles Polsak retired this past year after working for 33 years in Girard. It truly shows how persons with developmental disabilities contribute to our communities.”
