Fresh off the Gorillas’ 3-1 win over No. 11 Truman State on Saturday, outside hitter Pamela Cartagena was named MIAA volleyball Athlete of the Week by the league.

Cartagena, a 5-foot-7 junior from Bayamon, P.R., hit .376 (38 kills, 6 errors, 85 attempts) and averaged 4.60 points and 3.80 digs per set as the No. 17 Gorillas won three matches last week.

In the win over No. 11 Truman Saturday night, she scored 20 points (16 kills, 1 ace, 1 block solo, 4 block assists) and had 17 digs while hitting .342 (16-3-38).

The 16 kills-17 digs double-double gives her nine for the season — tied for the MIAA lead.
