Pittsburg Post 64 finished play in the weekend Pittsburg Legion/Fort Scott CC Classic with a 3-1 record, sweeping Neosho (Mo.) 11-6 and Shawnee Stags Post 327 11-10 Saturday morning.

In the bottom of the seventh against the Stags, Pittsburg won in thrilling fashion, as Joe Saia blasted a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 10 and then Brett Macary belted a 3-1 fastball over the left field wall, giving Pittsburg a walk-off victory. Macary was mobbed at home plate by his jubilant teammates and JayCee Ballpark erupted with applause.

“It was a very good weekend, against very good competition,” Post 64 coach Mike Watt said. “Every time Miege would get ahead, we responded. We had several people come up huge. Joe Saia and Brett Macary came up huge with back-to-back home runs. It was just a great game. It was one of those games they’ll always remember.”

Jordan Elliott drove in the first run of the dramatic four-run inning, scoring Nate Grimaldi with a sacrifice fly.

Against Neosho, Pittsburg fell behind 4-0, but scored nine runs in the bottom of the third. Jack Villamaria singled home two runs and Macary doubled home two runs, highlights of the decisive inning. Saia pitched 4.2 innings to win.

Pittsburg defeated the Johnson County Hornets 10-2 Friday morning and lost 5-0 to the Nebraska Sluggers Friday afternoon in the Pittsburg Legion/Fort Scott CC Classic.

Post 64 (8-6 on the season, having already played almost an entire high school baseball season with lots of baseball left) starts play Wednesday in the Joplin/Carthage Tournament against Springfield Hillcrest, 2:30 p.m. in Joplin.
