  • Joe Kuhel, 88, of Arma, KS, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO, due to head injuries sustained in a fall.

  • Joe Kuhel, 88, of Arma, KS, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO, due to head injuries sustained in a fall.

    He was born February, 4, 1925 at Edison, KS, to Mary (Femec) and Frank Kuhel.  He attended Edison School.

    On September 25, 1945, he was united in marriage to Nadine Yartz at the Arma Methodist Church.  She preceded him in death on August 18, 2005.

    Mr. Kuhel worked for W.S. Dickey Clay from December 7, 1944 until 1976.  He then worked for Oehme Brothers Masonry from January 2, 1977 until his retirement in 1987.

    Membership was held in the Arma United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge of Arma #408 and the Mirza Shrine.

    Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Kuhel Napier and her husband, Terry of Girard, KS, a son Tim J. Kuhel and his wife, Jill of Camp 50, one sister, Marie Murname of Girard, KS, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  

    In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Becky Sue Kuhel, sister, Mary Oplotnik, two brothers, Tony Kuhel and Frank Kuhel and a great-grandson, Tanner Wayne Slagle.

    Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Joe Goodin officiating.  Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the Brenner Mortuary.  The family suggests memorials to the Arma United Methodist Church and/or Angels Among Us.  These may be left at or sent to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
