  • Saga of the Pittsburg City Commission

    Dear editor:

I am a longtime Pittsburg citizen who neglected to get involved with Pittsburg City issues in the past. Like many other residents, I became alarmed at the assault on the Trash Service businesses and other overspending going on at City Hall.

I believe that Pittsburg has no equal for amenities for a town our size, especially when we finish getting a ADA compliant park at Schlanger Park and clean up Lakeside Park.

The Current City Commission majority, namely Michael Gray, Patrick O’Brien, & Marty Beasley ignored a crowd of over 200 people and shoved through the Solid Waste Task Force which threatened to harm our fine small business trash owners and they rammed through the vote despite knowing it was not popular. Monica Murnan was being “groomed” to follow in Marty Beasley’s place and she was put in as the Task Force director. When I asked to speak at one of these meetings, Monica did NOT want me to speak, but the other Task Force members allowed it and I mentioned that it would be immoral to do anything that would adversely affect these Pittsburg businesses.

On the “International Maintenance Codes” pushed through, Michael Gray spoke out and (paraphrasing) said, “We have the responsibility to make ordinances, and we will enforce them period.” My opinion- Michael Gray should have recused himself on the Pitt State request for $7.6 million in funding, because the point person on this was related to this employer.

Thanks to Mayor Ketterman for trying.
