Pittsburg State University Sigma Phi Epsilon will be hosting a 5k Tornado benefit to raise money and give to those in need. The race will be on March 31 at 10 a.m., and will begin and end at Chatters Restaurant at 2401 S. Rouse.

The fraternity conceived the idea for a race in November, and decided that half of the proceeds from the race fees will be donated to the Joplin relief effort to help rebuild what was devastated in the May 22, 2011, tornado. Members of the fraternity are currently in contact with several charities to work out an official plan.

The pre-register cost to participate is $15 for the run and $18 for the walk, and the onsite fee is $20 for either. Chatters will provide each participant with a half-dozen wings, an order of potato wedges and a sports drink. To register, log on to www.active.com and search “sigep” or email cableseth@yahoo.com to ask for a registration form.

Sponsors of the race are Chatters Bar and Grill, KOAM-TV, KFJX-TV, Vein Institue of the Midwest, Freddy’s, Strohman Enterprises, Binky Guy Textiles, MVP Painting, Not So New Auto Sales, Bud’s Jewlery and Pittsburg Ford.
