  • A man was killed Thursday night, and his wife was arrested for his murder shortly thereafter.
Thursday evening at 7:20 p.m., officers responded to 506 W. 6th St. in Pittsburg on a report of a shooting. There, they found John F. Moutz, 49, with a gunshot wound. Moutz was taken to Via Christi Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Shortly after 9 p.m., law enforcement arrested Carla C. Moutz, 51, at Forest and Olive streets. Carla Moutz was booked into Crawford County Jail on first degree murder.
"Based on evidence at the scene and witness information, Carla Moutz was identified as the suspect. As of this time, nobody else is believed to be involved in the crime. We are still actively investigating the case, however," said Lt. Cris Hatcher, Pittsburg Police. "All we know at this point is there was a verbal argument between John and Carla prior to the shooting. We're investigating at this time."
Hatcher said that there was an eyewitness to the shooting, and that eyewitness was neither of the two Moutzes.
Carla Moutz made her first appearance in court on Friday in a video conference with Judge A.J. Wachter. Moutz, facing a count of first degree murder, could see a sentence of life without parole, or a 25-year minimum if convicted. Wachter set bond for Moutz at $250,000.
Rick Smith was appointed by the court to be her attorney, and a status conference was set at 1 p.m. on June 10 at the County Courthouse in Girard.
