William H. Masoner, age 84, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 9:25 p.m. in Freeman West Hospital.

William H. Masoner, age 84, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 9:25 p.m. in Freeman West Hospital.

William was born March 28, 1926 in Barton County, Missouri, son of the late Granville H. Masoner and Isabell Hartman Masoner.  He graduated from Sheldon High School, attended Pittsburg State University, and then Missouri Southern State University where he received a Masters Degree in Construction Technology. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.   He worked in home construction for many years in the Joplin area.  William initiated a program at Franklin Tech for the Building Trades, and was a teacher there for over 15 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Blue Lodge Mason’s, was a lifetime member of the Ft. Scott Scottish Rite as a 32nd Degree Mason, was a past member of the Mirza Shrine Temple in Pittsburg, Kansas, and in 1998 he was the Chief Advisor to the Potentate with the Mirza Shrine Temple.

He was also baptized into the Christian Church in the 1950’s.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by two brothers, Bud and Jimmy, and three sisters, Mary, Evelyn, and Dolly.

Survivors include his wife, Lois R. Forste Masoner, whom he married April 21, 1946; a son, Darrell W. Masoner and wife Pamela of Pittsburg, Kansas; daughters, Sue L. Peterson and husband James of Cumberland, Maryland, and Janene L. Robinson and husband King of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Masoner of Raymore, Missouri; sisters, Clara Karr of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Jane Leigh of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Memorial services will be Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob Simon officiating.  Inurnment of his ashes will be at a later date in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary following the memorial service on Saturday.
