Evelyn M. Winters, 84, of Pittsburg, Kansas, died at 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.

Evelyn M. Winters, 84, of Pittsburg, Kansas, died at 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.

She was born March 7, 1926 in Parsons, Kansas, a daughter of Doril and Lola (Nigh) Karr.    She grew up and attended schools in Parsons.

She married Maurice E. Winters on September 20, 1947 at St. Barbara’s Church in Chicopee.  He preceded her in death on May 28, 1980.

They lived and farmed at rural Pittsburg from 1950 until 1980.  She returned to Parsons in September of 1981.
She attended the First Christian Church in Parsons and she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons.

She enjoyed gardening and flower gardening.

Survivors are a son, Steven Winters and Karen of Kirbyville, Missouri; a daughter, Linda Newberry and Willis of Laughlin, Nevada; grandchildren Brenda Polke, Charlotte Beauchamp, Sherry Simpson, and Morris Newberry; great-grandchildren Kyle Simpson, Peyton Simpson, Forrest Stevens, C. J. Beauchamp, Remington Kolb, and Brielle Kolb; a sister, Allene Ramey of Parsons.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery near Pittsburg.    Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
