  • Dr. Jimmy DeYoung has spoken and preached nearly everywhere else in the world, and now he’s coming to Crossroads Baptist Church, rural Girard.
He will be featured at a Bible Prophecy Conference being hosted by the church at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday, and will be available before the conference begins on Wednesday and Thursday to take questions from those attending.
Over his long career, Dr. DeYoung has used, and continues to use, both print and electronic media to spread the Gospel message.
After graduating from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, he joined Word of Life Fellowship in Schroon Lake, N.Y., and spent 12 years in many staff positions, including staff evangelist, host of Word of Life Inn and producer of radio programs heard around the world.
For the next five years he was vice president and general manager of New York City’s first Christian radio station, WNYM, and during that time was producer and host of a daily talk program.
“This was the No. media market in the world,” Dr. DeYoung said in a telephone interview. “To be a Christian voice is exciting.”
He is seen on the “Day of Discovery” television program. Making its debut on May 5, 1968, it is one of the longest continually running Christian broadcasts in U.S. television history.
“The program goes all over the world,” Dr. DeYoung said. “In the last six or seven months I’ve been in Canada, Italy, Greece and Turkey. The Lord has provided and opened up doors for us.”
He has also resided in Jerusalem for at least a portion of each year for the last 22 years,. Dr. DeYoung said that he first arrived there just three days before the Gulf Crisis in 1991, when Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein launched Scud missiles against Israel. He and his wife weathered 39 Scud attacks.
“It was a little bit nerve-wracking,” Dr. DeYoung said. “Most Christians were leaving Israel at that time and my wife and I were moving in.”
This helped establish a rapport between the DeYoungs and the Israelis, he said.
“They said, ‘These Christians will stand with us in our time of trouble,” Dr. DeYoung said.
He founded the Assembly at Jerusalem, a Bible-preaching church.
“We started with six people and have 450 now,” he said. “My church has led 200 Jews to the Lord, using only Daniel 24-27. We do not use the New Testament.”
Dr. DeYoung said that these verses of Daniel predict the coming of the Messiah within a specific time period, also that the Messiah will die a “dastardly death.”
“With the time period specified, the only one who fits is Jesus,” he said.
Dr. DeYoung and his wife have full credentials as journalists, and he has interviewed many Israeli leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, former Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehhud Olmert, Israeli President Shimon Peres. along with the king of Jordan and the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Page 2 of 2 - He continues to monitor current events as they unfold in the Middle East compares these events to Biblical prophecy.
“Iran will be Israel’s No. 1 threat,” Dr. DeYoung said. “Syria is going crazy and the United States may help the rebels there, who are a mixed bag of Islamic extremists. I’m not saying Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad is a good man, but sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.”
He sees bad times coming, but doesn’t believe he’ll be here for them.
“The Christians will be raptured out before this come about,” Dr. DeYoung said. “The ancient Jewish prophets actually wrote about it. Somebody asked me if I believe in the Rapture. I don’t want to go through this terrible time on earth, so better the Rapture.”
He listed the topics for his upcoming services at Crossroads Baptist Church. Today he will discuss the Book of Revelations and the four major cities of the future — Rome, Damascus, Jerusalem and Babylon.
“On Wednesday I’ll talk about Jerusalem and its significance in the end times as it relates to the Garden of Eden, and where that really was,” Dr. DeLong said. “The Garden of Eden was not in Iraq.”
Finally, on Thursday, he will discuss Esau and the Palestinian people, tracing their roots back to Esau, twin brother of Jacob, sons of Isaac.
The Bible Prophecy Conference will be open to the public and there will be no admission charge. However, a free will love offering will be taken for Dr. DeYoung and his staff.
